Can I text my ChatGPT dot over RCS in Google Messages?
Probably, if your account has texting. OpenAI confirms RCS on Android, in beta for a limited number of ChatGPT Pro users in the US. It doesn’t name Google Messages: its docs just say to enable RCS in your messaging app. The Google Messages wording comes from press coverage.
Checked . We haven’t tested this on a phone yet.
Which phones and apps work
“Per OpenAI” means OpenAI’s own docs or announcements say it. “Reported” means a news outlet or community post says it and OpenAI’s docs don’t. “Not stated” means we found no answer from OpenAI. Rows will say “Tested” once we’ve tried them on a real account.

Check whether you can text your dot
Pick your setup. This runs in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.
What texting can and can’t do
- You can send text, photos, and voice messages.
- Your dot can message you first, and you can ask it to text you when something needs your attention.
- Texting shares memory and plugins with your dot in ChatGPT.
- When your dot needs approval, it sends a link so you can review the request in ChatGPT.
- It’s one-to-one. No one else can text your dot, and it can’t join group chats.
- Phone calls and FaceTime aren’t supported through texting. You can call your dot in ChatGPT.
- To stop, reply STOP, or open your dot’s profile and select Texting, then Turn off texting. Turning it off disconnects your number and keeps your past conversations.

Who handles your texts
OpenAI uses a third-party messaging provider, Linq, to send and receive these texts. Because Linq processes them on the way to OpenAI, the conversation isn’t end-to-end encrypted, even over iMessage or RCS.
OpenAI says Linq doesn’t keep message contents after delivery, limits when its staff can access your texts, and may keep delivery details such as timestamps. It also says it reviewed its connection to Linq and that an independent firm tested Linq’s service. OpenAI stores your texts as part of your dot’s conversations in ChatGPT. Turning on texting doesn’t give your dot or OpenAI access to your other text conversations.
On personal plans, OpenAI says you can control whether your dot’s conversations and work are used to improve its models, and its data controls page says sharing is on by default for Pro. OpenAI doesn’t mention texts separately. Since it stores them as dot conversations, we’d assume the setting covers them. You can turn it off under “Improve the model for everyone.”
One Tech Times article repeats Linq’s claim that even Linq can’t read its messages. OpenAI says texts to your dot aren’t end-to-end encrypted, and that’s what we’d plan around.
Our advice: keep passwords and one-time codes out of these messages.

Setting it up
You turn this on inside ChatGPT, not on this site. In short: open your dot’s profile, select Texting, verify your phone number, save the contact card, then send your dot a message. OpenAI’s setup steps have the details.

Frequently asked questions
Do ChatGPT dots work with Google Messages?
Android Authority and Tech Times say so, though neither says it tested this. OpenAI’s docs only say RCS on Android and tell you to enable RCS in your messaging app, without naming one.
Do they work with Samsung Messages?
OpenAI hasn’t said, and its docs don’t list any Android messaging apps. Samsung also ended this app in the US in July 2026 on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or higher and recommends Google Messages, so on those phones use Google Messages.
Can I use RCS on an iPhone?
OpenAI hasn’t said you can. Its wording is iMessage or RCS on Android, so on an iPhone plan on using iMessage.
What happens if I send my dot an SMS?
SMS isn’t supported. You may get an automatic reply asking you to use iMessage, RCS, or the ChatGPT app, and your carrier’s SMS rates apply.
Are texts to my dot end-to-end encrypted?
No. OpenAI says texts pass through Linq, a third-party messaging provider, so they aren’t end-to-end encrypted, even over iMessage or RCS.
